Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 3 large onions, finely chopped

  • Olive oil (enough to cover the bottom of the pot)

  • 750g ground beef

  • Optional: a splash of red wine

  • 3-5 tomatoes, diced (adjust according to size)

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • Black pepper, to taste

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • Boiling water, enough to cover the ingredients

Preparation

Preparation:

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil and sauté the onions over medium heat until softened, but not browned

  2. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until fully browned and crumbled

  3. (Optional) Add a splash of red wine, cover, and cook for a few minutes to let the flavors absorb

  4. Add the diced tomatoes, oregano, black pepper, salt, and paprika. Stir to combine

  5. Pour enough boiling water to cover the mixture and bring to a boil

  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 3 hours, stirring occasionally

  7. Throughout the cooking time, adjust the seasoning as needed, and balance cooking with or without a lid to ensure the sauce doesn't get too watery or too thick

Notes

Notes:

  • For the best results, let the sauce simmer for longer if possible to deepen the flavors

  • The addition of red wine adds depth, but the sauce is delicious without it as well
